Communion

Olarune 18, YK 999

Upon Lysander's return to Sharn he is approached by a messenger bearing a note. It reads:

"My dear friend L,

As I am aware from some of our private conversations that, in matters of faith, you are somewhat dubious, allow me to invite you to witness a brief ritual that might shed some light upon my own recent re-dedication.

If you would at your earliest convenience proceed to the address below, I will be pleased to provide you a demonstration as well as with a delicious repast as we discuss it's ramifications.

The apartment belongs to one of my flock who is currently away and has generously loaned it to me for this purpose. He is a individual of great discretion so it would be best if you would disguise yourself and insure you are not followed on your way here.

I and He who walks among us await you patiently.

Faithfully yours,
P"

When Lys arrives (Jase and I agreed over the phone just that now he would) Pel shows him in and pours them both some wine. After some brief pleasantries he says, "Well, let's to it then, shall we?"

Secure behind the arcane protections of Malfiore LeQuande's locked and bolted apartment doors, and with his fellow Wolf at the alert, Pel bows before his private altar to the Traveler, lighting the incense and clearing his mind. He speaks the appropriate benedictions to this most mysterious of deities and humbly makes the following inquiries:

1. Were agents of The Silver Flame responsible for Luggoth's parents' death?

2. Did Aeromus have a hand in the assasination attempt on Brand's father?

3. Did Vadis engineer the theft of the schema and creation pattern from my possesion?

4. Are the Emerald Claw planning an attack upon the Wandering Wolves?

5. Was the list of names that Zan found a "hit" list?

6. Is William d'Deneith currently in Sharn?

7. Is it now very likely that war will erupt between Breland and Drooam?

8. Is Vadis planning for harm to come to Councilor Kharisa?

If the answer to 8 is "YES" go to 9a., if "NO" go to 9b.

9a. Is he trying to set me up as a "patsy" for these actions?

9b. “Will an alliance between House Orien and Hackrazet help give Traega d’Orien the ability to freely return to Khorvaire to reunite with his loved ones?”

After the spell is cast and the answers given, Pel and his friend will adjourn to the dining room to dine and discuss.

As the fumes of the expensive incense tickle Lysander's nose, he is startled to hear a knock at the door. His first reaction is to draw his blade and look to Pel for a reaction.

To his surprise, Pel is already up, walking unarmed, with a glazed but peaceful expression, to the door.

He throws it open and a figure, hardly describable as a man or woman, walks in through the door before Lysander can react. The man (he's sure it's a man now) has a blank face and plain, black clothes, but there's a suggestion of laughing eyes and a smiling mouth, and Lysander finds himself put at ease despite the odd appearance and seeming interruption of the ritual.

"Ah, lovely, wine and cheese," says the beautiful young lady (for Lysander is sure she is a woman now) as she helps herself to some of the food and drink before lounging in an expensive looking chair. Lysander looks over and realizes that Pel has recovered his wits to some extent, but he still looks somewhat awed.

"Are you---" Pel begins, in a reverent, hushed tone, but the older gentleman (Lysander is now certain that's what he has always been) simply gives a beatific smile and says "Of course I am. And you have questions for me, don't you."

Pel nods and sits down himself, clearing his mind to focus only on the questions he had previously prepared, and not the literally hundreds that now swirl through his mind. As he opens his mouth to speak, the matronly woman on the chair says "Remember, the nature of our agreement is short, yes and no answers only. And if I can't give you a satisfactory answer in those terms, I'll do my best not to be too unclear."

Pel clears his throat softly and says, in a firm, emotionless tone: "Were agents of The Silver Flame responsible for Luggoth's parents' death?"

The young man on the chair frowns, stands up, takes a bite of cheese and wanders over to the window, where he casually flicks his wrist, causing the shutters to swing open so he can gaze out into Sharn.

"Yes."

The clear, concise answer to such a burning question surprises both Pel and Lysander, but Pel continues with his questions before his mind can fog and the spell can fade.

"Did Aeromus have a hand in the assassination attempt on Brand's father?"

This time, the short, almost dwarf-like man takes no time, he merely nods firmly and says "Yes."

Emboldened by two positive and clear answers, Pel feels a knot of worry in his stomach as he asks:

"Did Vadis engineer the theft of the schema and creation pattern from my possession?"

A slight smile plays across the face of the mysterious visitor. "No."

Relieved, Pel presses on. "Are the Emerald Claw planning an attack upon the Wandering Wolves?"

The beautiful woman at the window closes the shutters, squints her eyes briefly as if thinking and then replies...

"No."

Surprised, Pel stumbles for a moment over his next question.

"Was the list of names that Zan found a "hit" list?"

"No."

"Is William d'Deneith currently in Sharn?"

The tall, thin man at the window waves his hand thoughtfully at the window and the city below before replying "Yes."

Pel reaches for a glass of wine to steady his nerves, noting that Lysander has already drained his and is staring with rapt attention at the scene before him, no doubt memorizing every detail for future songs and stories.

"Is it now very likely that war will erupt between Breland and Drooam?"

With a look that suggests a touch of remorse, the man at the window replies "Yes."

Realizing that his time is coming to an end, and wishing he could somehow prolong the encounter, Pel nevertheless plunges ahead.

"Is Vadis planning for harm to come to Councilor Kharisa?"

The elderly woman at the window turns and comes to sit once more on the chair, looking more serious than she has during any time during her visit.

The answer gives Pel a slight chill.

"Yes."

Ready for this possibility, or else he wouldn't have asked the question, Pel responds with his follow-up question.

"Is he trying to set me up as a "patsy" for these actions?"

The older woman shakes her head sadly. "No."

Her eyes brighten, her face shifts once more into a blank mask, her body into the more gender neutral form Lysander and Pel saw at first, and it stands and walks to the door.

"Safe travels to you both."

With that, the mysterious visitor is gone into the night, and the arcane power that had moments ago resonated throughout the room fades away.

It is several minutes before either Pel or Lysander can find voice to speak.

Is it Friday yet?

Pel's jaw works open and closed a few times, but no sound issues forth. Finally he says, "Dude...whoa. I'm, uh, gonna...uh, wine...more. Yeah."

Lys turns a whiter shade of pale...

"Hmm, that was.....unexpected.

Yes, I believe wine may be in order."

"Pel, was that.......? I mean, there is no record of that sort of thing actually happening. The Flame is just that, a force, a power. The Host and the rest of the Six answer with faith magic or vague impressions. And you have a better chance cutting of the jewels of the Dragon Below than getting any kind of real response.....but.......

"I'll contact you later."

Lys heads for the door.....
