Olarune 1 - Olarune 28, YK 999
The Watch, with help from House Cannith, has begun producing portable books of sketches and information about known members of the gangs, which ranking officers of the Watch carry with them. Anyone in these books can be arrested on sight under the provisions of this initiative. The Boromars are politically protected from being in these books, and the Tyrants are protected by virtue of their multiple identities, but the Daask are hit hard by this new directive. Especially when, halfway through Olarune, the City Council hires 70% of the Blademarks in the city to assist the Watch in dealing with gang war related matters.
The Day of Mourning passes on 20 Olarune. The Day of Mourning often causes some tension and anger amongst the Cyran exiles in Breland, and with tensions amped up by the gang war, this year a riot erupts. Angry Cyrans flood the streets, demanding a kingdom of their own, and the riot is put down by The Watch and the Red Cloak Battalion. There is much outrage in the papers over what some see as an abuse of power, and some fiery rhetoric from King Boranel in the Sharn Inquisitive leads many to speculate that this might be the tipping point in pushing Breland into a war with Droamm in order to cool off the tension from the gang war.
By the time Olarune 15 has come, all of the Wolves are back in Sharn and have about two weeks to do whatever they'd like, either individually or as a group.
As Olarune starts to wind down, the Wolves decide to make arrangements for travel to Elaydren's wedding. Brand had been keeping an eye out for opportunities, and discovers that an Aundarian merchant named Tyman Karch has booked passage on the Five Nations Express on the first of Therendor, and has paid for extra security. A little research determines that Karch always pays for extra security, and has in fact had a half-dozen House Deneith bodyguards throughough his three week stay in Sharn, but he seems to just be showing off his money and maybe a little bit paranoid, as there aren't any records of anything happening to him beyond the standard robbery attempts that bedevil most merchants.
It was easy for Brand to land the Wolves the gig as security for Tyman. The pay is free passage and luxury accomodations both ways. The train leaves at mid-day on 1 Therendor, and will arrive in Fairhaven late at night on 4 Therendor, which will give you a day to spend in Aundair before the wedding, to be held on 6 Therendor.
Now the only question is, what wedding gift will the Wolves get for Elaydren and Hetris d'Cannith? Keeping in mind, of course, that she knows you're wealthy adventurers.
BRAND
On Olarune 5, Brand finishes his apprenticeship to Dahlia d'Orien and officially becomes a Blade of Orien. As a graduation present of sorts, Dahlia and her father pull some strings to get Brand a teleport into Stormreach, with a return trip scheduled for Olarune 15, so that he can take some time to visit with his contacts in Orien. Brand is pleased that he is met not only by Yanesh Hite, but by Tworock, who has once again escaped captivity by the giants. Brand gives him the invitation to Elaydren's wedding, but Tworock declines, saying only that "I'm needed here."
On the way to visit Hackrazet, Tworock fills Brand in on what has happened. Drow assassins broke into the Native's camp and attempted to kill his father. They were unfortunate enough to attack after Tworock returned, and he joined the rest of his father's forces in killing the would-be assassins. When they were killed, they reverted to human form, and it was clear that this was not a drow assassination attempt. Tworock isn't sure who it was, but he knows it won't be the last attempt, and he won't leave Xen'drik until he's discovered who it was and taken care of them.
The visit with Hackrazet goes exceptionally well. Hackrazet is pleased with the price negotiated, and Brand has come equipped with contracts that will see Orien operatives placed before the end of the month. Hackrazet even gives Brand a month of Eternal Rations ("good for someone who travels for a living," he says with a wink) as a thank you for hooking the whole deal up.
LYSANDER
After the performances in Fairhaven, Lysander has a meeting with Viceroy Dulaen Elorrenthi d'Phiarlan, Lord Seneschal of Aundair and Master of the Demesne of Memory. This is the discipline that encompasses the written word, including prose, poetry and propaganda, and Viceroy Dulaen spends the better part of the day exchanging stories and showing you books, letters and other history of House Phiarlan. He presents him with a rare edition of The Travels of Chiarlan The Younger, a book written by your mentor *before* he was known as The Heretic, during the early days of the Last War, as a wedding gift. It contains historical insights, old stories and other tidbits that increase Lysander's bardic knowledge as well as his understanding of his mentor.
On the afternoon of 28 Zarantyr, they take a 15-hour journey on the lightning rail to Passage, the seat of House Orien. He gives three performances on the 1 Olarune to a variety of crowds. The most interesting one is when Lysander meets dignitaries from House Orien, including Aeromus d'Orien, the man who framed Brand's father.
On 2 Olarune, Lysander and Arenydee take the lightning rail from Passage, back through Fairhaven and across the border of Thrane. Two days later, on 4 Olarune, they arrive very early in the morning. Lysander gives a performance in their open air amphitheatre, which is attended by many and picketed by some of the more fanatical members of The Silver Flame in town because of your "heretical" training. After the performance, you meet with Viceroy Idal Tialaen d'Phiarlan, master of the Demesne of Shape, which operates in Thaliost. Arenydee has several friends amongst this Demesne. That night, they leave aboard an airship for a morning arrival on 5 Olarune in Flamekeep.
There, Lysander is treated to a luncheon with Viceroy Kels Tialaen d'Phiarlan, Demesne of Music and many of the influential members of House Phiarlan in Thrane. He provides a private performance of the first part of the Cycle of the Wolf, which is personally critiqued by Viceroy Kels and his most trusted acolytes. That night, he performs for many of the high society of Thrane's capital, and in the morning he gives a small, private performance for members of the Church of the Silver Flame.
On the morning of 6 Olarune, Lysander and Arenydee travel to Sigilstar, the "crossroads of Thrane." There they experience a more open-minded and artistic community than in most of Thrane, as well as some of the best tea you've ever sampled. There's also a wealth of alchemy and magical talent at work in the town. Lysander performs two shows, an afternoon and an evening show, in two different medium-sized but elegant theatres.
7 Olarune is a relatively relaxed day, with travel beginning at mid-day and ending only 6 hours later in Aruldusk, a rustic town where Lysander performs a small evening show in a local tavern. The next day, on 8 Olarune, they once again cross the border via lightning rail back into Breland, stopping at the city of Vathirond late at night.
Two performances in Vathirond on 9 Olarune, then returns to the cities he visited during the early days of his tour, this time performing the Cycle of the Wolf. First he travels to Sterngate, where there's a performance on 10 Olarune. Then a long (over a day) journey to Starilaskur, arriving early in the morning on 12 Olarune and performing three performances until 13 Olarune, when the lightning rail provides another day-long trip to the city of Wroat. The royalty once again turns out for your performance, and then it's a morning journey back to Sharn on 14 Olarune for a return engagement at Kavarrah Concert Hall.
After that, you've got about two weeks to do whatever you wish in Sharn.
PEL
Pel has to balance his time between his new congregation, where he sometimes helps Chance with the ceremonies, and his role in the Tyrants, which becomes increasingly dangerous and even bloody as the gang war heats up. Another member of the council, another ally of Cord, is assassinated by the Daask, and once again, an ally of your father takes his place. Your father comes to visit you personally after the assassination and tells you that with the shift in power, he believes he'll be able to officially bring you onto the council within the next couple of months. He also tells you that he has formalized a relationship with the Boromars, and that they are strategizing as to how to end the war with the Daask in the next couple of months. The details are still very sketchy, but he tells you that your role is to get even closer to Sava Kharisa, to offer to help her and in fact become her assistant in the public eye if possible.
This isn't terribly difficult, as Sava clearly finds the half-elf persona you've presented with very charming, and has invited you to all of her gallery showings, sought your advice in dealing with the gang war and generally come to lean on you for advice and support. You also think there's some romantic interest there, although she's too dedicated to her work for that to go anywhere fast.
Pel also communes with the Traveler. He'll have answers when I have the questions.

Luggoth hibernates.
Clearly Brand’s House Orien/Hackrazet scheme is off to a good start. Here’s some insight into Brand’s proposal to Markus Hume of House Orien.
As you know, political machinations have left House Orien with nary a toehold in Xen’drik. I have spent no small amount of time there and I have a proposal for a business scheme that would allow House Orien to reopen ties to that mysterious continent. In my journeys I’ve met a man called The Native who has ties across the continent far deeper than any enjoyed by the nations of Khorvaire. With his help, it is my hope to build an alliance between House Orien and one of the Native’s contacts in Xen’drik. I recently spent time with a demon called Hackrazet and had a chance to see his eternal rations farming operation firsthand. I wonder, would Hackrazet be interested in an exclusive contract to provide House Orien with Eternal Rations for House Orien’s many traveling caravans? House Orien would benefit from a steady supply of the spoil resistant rations for their caravans, perhaps at a stable price. Hackrazet would enjoy a standing order of increased product, making more money in a more predictable fashion.
As an added benefit, perhaps a garrison of Orien soldiers could be stationed on Hackrazet’s farm. This could be of aid to Hackrazet given his recent problems with not-so-local predators and would be helpful should any other “competitors” target his business. Of course, I would personally serve as liaison between the House and Hackrazet, with the help of Orien teleporters. Perhaps this could be the first step in building a line of supply between House Orien, the Native and our other contacts in Xen’drik.
It bears mention that by no means do I trust Hackrazet. A demonic former assassin is not the most reliable ally. However, I have two thoughts in this regard. It is entirely possible that Hackrazet still has ties to his demonic brethren. This is true whether he is in bed with House Orien or no. By rotating out the soldiers in the Orien garrison, perhaps we can keep an eye on Hackrazet. I propose that no soldier return to that posting so that none will fall under Hackrazet’s control. In addition, returning soldiers should be thoroughly debriefed via means both mundane and magical. This should include detecting any outside influences from simple charms to domination to possession.
In addition, I propose that our initial orders of eternal rations outstrip the House’s actual needs. By consistently building a stockpile of eternal rations we will prevent Hackrazet from gaining any true leverage over the House. Any pressure put upon us by a shortage or embargo of shipments will simply force the House to dip into its reserve until we either correct the problems with Hackrazet or end our relationship and find a new one while taking advantage of our stockpile. Of course, these contingency plans should be held as closely guarded secrets, for who knows where one such as Hackrazet has eyes and ears? The beauty of this plan is that if Hackrazet is NOT involved in any nefarious dealings, then we have done him no harm. It is merely an insurance plan against the possibility of misdeeds.
Also, if Pel still has questions left, Brand would like to ask: Did Aeromus have a hand in the assasination attempt on my father?
During Brand's 2 weeks in Sharn, he'll spend a great deal of time in and around Terminus, ostensibly learning more about House Orien. In actuality, he'll be learning as much as he can about his "Uncle" Aeromus and where Aeromus' interests lie, who are his allies and who are his enemies.
Brand would also like to sit and talk with Lysander to hear all that the keenly observant half elf can tell him of Aeromus and the people around him during Lysander's visit to Passage. Did Aeromus seem to have any inkling that Brand is still alive? Did he have any associates who might be helpful or hinderances in removing Aeromus from the playing field so that Brand's father, Traega, can return to the House?
Pel, suspicious as usual, will attempt to gather some info about this Tyman Karch as he has a feeling that there's is more than meets the eye about the man. (if you care to make the roll it's +11.)
I also have a suggestion for a wedding present - an artist. Or more precisely, a commission to have an artist, and one of some note, to paint the happy couple's portrait. I'm sure Sava could reccommend someone, or perhaps there is someone from Lysander's House that would fit the bill.
Pel, you learn the following about Tyman Karch:
1. He is a wealthy Aundarian merchant - his net worth is estimated at about six figures, and includes a small home in Dalan's Refuge, Upper Tavick's Landing in Sharn (a feat that required around 20,000 gold and the approval of 25 other residents in the district) and a mansion in Fairhaven, Aundair that you hear is worth closer to 50,000 gold.
2. He is married and has two children, a 7-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl. They usually all travel together. He also has a personal assistant named Ollander Finch, someone who is business savvy but definitely not a double for a bodyguard. Tyman seems to prefer to hire his security on a case-by-case basis.
3. You hear suggestions that he's a bit paranoid, and feels that permanent security would have more information if they chose to turn on him. You also hear more innocent suggestions that he's too flighty and demanding to maintain a permanent staff (aside from the fervently loyal Ollander) and that's why he has to continually hire new staff for security, transport, etc.
4. He's been in business for over 20 years, and has had his own shop in Aundair (Karch's Korner) for the last 15. He exports Aundarian wine, cheese, books and bookmaking materials, and trades them for either coin or goods that he can import into Aundair.
5. Rumor has it that his business this time was with a group of wizards, several of the high-end wine and cheese shops in town and some of the finer tool-makers in Sharn.
6. He had hired a half-dozen Deneith bodyguards for his trip, and he doubled that number when he heard about the gang war going on. None of them reported anything unusual to their superiors, although with the gang war keeping Deneith busy, you weren't able to talk to any of the bodyguards personally.
Brand:
You've become fairly familiar with the inner workings of Terminus and House Orien's Sharn operation. What you've discovered is that, at least from your point-of-view, it's a lot more like working for an upscale transportation and courier company than being in a political family. Most of the people you work with are fairly salt of the earth, drivers and repairmen and hospitality types, and even those who have their eye on a bigger prize show that off by being ambitious and working hard, rather than taking advantage of the weaknesses of others, relying on blackmail or the other kinds of things your uncle told you about.
Your uncle is known to many of the drivers and security who have traveled through Aundair, and most of them don't think much of him. "He's a dandy." "Couldn't even pull a single shift driving the Rail or taking care of passengers." "More like Aundarian royalty than a member of the House."
They also don't know a lot about him. You get the sense that despite their disdain, there's a certain fear of Aeromus, and there are plenty of rumors that he has dirt on anyone who could be a threat to him, and that he has operatives capable of doing physical dirty work without implicating him.
His allies are many, his enemies probably also many, but no one seems to know their names. The unspoken part of that is that if someone knew their names, Aeromus would know them too... and that wouldn't be good for his enemies.
As for Lysander, he spoke with Aeromus only for a few minutes after a performance, but his eye for detail provides you with some very important information.
First of all, Aeromus was never more than about 10 feet from his "associate," a shifter named Url who looked like "Luggoth's surlier, bulkier twin."
Secondly, Aeromus, while definitely dressed in finery, is not what Lysander would call a dandy. His eyes never stopped moving, his ears always straining to catch conversations. Lysander knows his type, as he's worked with many of them. He's a blackmailer, and also someone with a considerable amount of charm. Even his enemies are likely sometimes his friends. His foppishness is a mask that he wears, and only one as used to the arts of deception as Lysander could penetrate it. Even Arenydee was briefly taken in by his charm, although she picked up on the more dangerous undercurrent as well.
More than an inkling, in his brief conversation with Lysander, Aeromus even said "Do tell Brand how glad I am that he's survived his ordeal. We'd really like him to come up to Passage, especially now that he's taken up his proper place in the House again." Lysander tried his best to remain friendly and noncommittal, but he can't be sure that Aeromus didn't read something in his eyes and his reaction. (Jason, if you want to give me a Bluff or Diplomacy roll, your choice, to see how you masked your reaction, post it here).
Finding allies against Aeromus will take more than a casual drop-in at a gathering. It might require in-depth, in-person research in Passage, and even then the end result might only be Brand finding himself caught up in Aeromus's web.
Well, so much for my attempt to avoid Aeoromus' gaze upon my return to the House. Thank you for this information, Lysander. It sounds as if this Url is a force to be reckoned with, though I imagine that Aeromus remains the real threat. I shall think on this. In the meantime, I had best be off to send him a message now that I know he is aware of me. Thanks again, my friend. I shall see you soon.
With that, Brand and Whitehearth depart, heading for the nearest Sivis message station. Brand writes a quick note to Aeromus.
Dear Uncle,
I have just had word from my close friend Lysander d'Phiarlen of your greetings. I had hoped to announce my return to the House to you in person, but it appears that word travels as quickly as the Lightning Rail. Though I am now based in Sharn, surely House business will bring me your way soon enough. I look forward to seeing you upon my next visit to Passage. I am certain it will be an eventful reunion.
All the best,
Lord Brand d'Orien
