Eberron Travel Journal: Zilargo

The newest port of call for the Wandering Wolves is Trolanport, the capital city of the gnomish province of Zilargo. Zilargo is 60% gnomes, 16% humans, 11% dwarves, 7% kobolds and 6% other races. It's major exports are alchemical goods, education, entertainment, maps, precious stones and ships. The gnomes of Khorvaire have lived there for thousands of years. Zilargo is just to the southeast of Breland, between the Howling Peaks and the Seawall Mountains. During the Last War, Zilargo spent part of the conflict as a neutral observer before aligning with Breland in 962 YK. From that point on, the gnomes provided intelligence and elemental-bound weapons to Breland while avoiding more combat. As a result, Zilargo emerged from the Last War stronger than ever, and Breland owes the gnomes a debt for the services they rendered.

House Sivis was born in Zilargo, and the city of Korranberg is still the seat of its power. Sivis acts as a clearinghouse for gnome translators, mediators and purveyors of similar services. Other notable locales in Zilargo include The Library of Korranberg, the greatest repository of general knowledge in Khorvaire, and the home of The Korranberg Chronicle, the most widely distributed and read periodical in the Five Nations. Zilargo is a peaceful nation with a pleasant climate, mild wildlife and very few bandits or other threats to travelers. The gnomish population is generally friendly, helpful and very outgoing, often seeming genuinely interested in talking with strangers. The Triumvirate rules Zilargo fairly but firmly, and deals with threats to the community more with subterfuge than force.

Trolanport is the capital city, with a population of 27,500. This coastal capital has crisscrossing canals and flooded streets and serves as the center of the gnome shipbuilding industry and the nexus for trade of all sorts. The gnomes of Trolanport are among the greatest shipwrights and cartographers of Khorvaire, and even Lhazaar Princes travel there to commission gnome-made vessels. House Kundarak, House Sivis and House Cannith have major outposts here, and all of the dragonmarked houses are represented.
