On Battling Vampyr:
Those of a vampiric nature are a deadly foe, capable of much worse than simply killing you. Make even the slightest misstep and you'll find yourself their unwilling servant, perhaps even beyond your own death and into an eternity of undead servitude.Best to avoid, then, direct conflict with vampyr. If one is threatened or cornered, however, the following information and tactics may save your life.
Do not ever get in close to a vampyr, if you can avoid it. They can dominate your will with a gaze, drain your life energy with a touch or suck your blood and vitality with a bite. They are immune to weapons that would kill most men, vulnerable only to sorcery and silver, and quick to heal even wounds caused by blade and bow created from such.
The vampyr have a special relationship with the beasts, able to call upon rats, wolves or bats or even to transform themselves into said beasts. Also will they take the form of mist, slipping unseen into unprotected rooms. They cannot go where they are not invited, although most vampyr are subtle and skilled at gaining invitation. Also they cannot cross running water without help, nor can they abide the sight of a mirror or a symbol of faith. The touch of sun to their skin is also anathema, and will destroy them quickly and finally.
Beyond sunlight, the only way to destroy a vampire is to plunge a wooden stake into its heart. However, if the stake is ever removed, the vampire will awaken as if nothing had happened.
